Positive
  • Got these to try them out, not at all disappointed, these give a great ride, they run light, the fit is bang on, the shoe is comfortable, performance is amazing, my feet can breath, these are great for running and even good in the gym.
  • I don’t usually bother commenting but these break my rules, they are really good, everything I need is here at a reasonable price, the shoe feels light and my feet actually can breath due to the nice mesh uppers, no wear signs on the mesh after 5 months, the sole is seriously durable and as I need lots of cushioning I am so impressed with these. Buy these and try these, I bet your will be impressed.
  • I needed a shoe which doubles up for both running and usable in the gym and these do exactly that, I run regularly in all weathers so I got two pairs, one pair for running and one pair for the gym and cardiovascular workouts, excellent shoes, I highly recommend these.
  • These are really good, lots of support while I run, good for all weathers, very durable, gone are the problems I had with others shoes not being able to stop shock, f you’re checking out trying a different shoe you wont go wrong with these. Also very affordable.
  • Allways had sweaty feet, so I chose these for the open mesh, my choice was a good move, I’m surprised how supportive these are, lovely consistent traction, I run 4 times weekly and these are GREAT.
  • Bought these for my daughter, she runs everyday, she was so impressed by these, when my birthday came around she got a pair for me. These are really impressive shoes I use them every weekend.
  • I went for these because I really push shoes to the limit and I wanted a shoe with a sole that can take punishment in all conditions, I heard about the carbon rubber soles so I felt why not give these a try/?
  • Delighted with the result, these shoes can pound there way through anything, they breath well, the shoe has a very good fit, the heel area is mega supportive and the return on these gives a nice push, happy I tried these and I’m sticking with them in future.
  • Very good shoe for the price, everything in terms of features is right there, cushion, support, a very high durability, runs light but feels robust, I ride these 5 times a week in the evening, these do qualify as one of the best I have used. Shock absorbing in these is great, no jolts or jarring. If you try these you won’t regret.
  • I read the reviews and decided to try these and well I was more than just pleased, now I have two pairs, one pair for weekend running where I cover longer distances and a pair for jogging during the week, the fit is sound, the performance is way above average and the price is friendly.
Negative
  • I like the shoe, if I can just point out one thing, next update please do something for traction as it’s a bit vague when running on very wet surfaces, otherwise these are very good.
  • Found these stiff when I did my first 3-4 rides, so these do need breaking in, would be nice if there was more energy return as flexibility is minimal.
  • The sole can feel stiff while running and I think it’s down to the rubber used, don’t quite get the flexy bounce back which I have had from other shoes, good shoe just needs a bit more flexibility for the sole.
  • Grip can be tricky on very wet surfaces, especially smooth concrete. I’m not saying they don’t grip because they do but there is this constant hint at the potential to slip or slide, because sometimes these will do that, this can be distracting on rainy days.
  • I’m used to flexibility from a shoe right from day one but these need a prolonged period for breaking in the solid platform style sole, the flexibility comes eventually but requires work, I’m not sure if this is good or bad as I do understand that the sole is a solid durable fixture.

Outsole

The outsole of the shoe is one that is designed primarily from AHAR carbon rubber; this material enables the shoe to function relatively durable meaning that the shoe can be worn for longer periods than normal. The downside to this is that the shoe isn’t equipped with the best in terms of traction provided to the wearer. The sole unit of the shoe also has Asics’s signature guidance line technology enabling the shoe to provide the wearer with an improved range of motion during wear. The forefoot and heel of the shoe are also padded meaning that the wearer of the shoe receives a high level of cushioning for those areas of the foot.

Midsole

The midsole of the shoe is primarily fashioned from SPEVA foam material. This material allows the shoe to provide the wearer with a decent level of cushioning as well as responsiveness during wear. This is only enhanced by the shoe’s ability to absorb shocks and provide a level of rebound to the wearer of the shoe. The material in the sole unit of the shoe flexes relatively easily ensuring that the wearer of the shoe experiences a decent range of motion in the shoe.

Upper

The upper of the shoe is designed primarily from an engineered mesh material to allow for a decent level of breathability for the wearer of the shoe. The shoe also features various overlays to keep the shoe relatively stable during wear as well; the use of the overlay coupled with the padding that is present throughout the shoe design allows for a decent level of support and comfort to be experienced by the wearer’s foot.

Weight

The shoe is designed from materials that allow for a lightweight feel during their use of the shoe. The mesh in the upper of the shoe is naturally porous which means that it basically takes less of it cover the entirety of the shoe. On top of this, the sole unit of the shoe is designed primarily from rubber and SPEVA foam, 2 equally lightweight materials. The use of these materials in the design of the shoe is the main reasons why the design of the shoe is one that promotes speed and allows for quick movements to be made during a race.

Breathability

The upper of this shoe is designed primarily from a mesh material. The Pulse 8’s use of mesh in the upper of the design allows for a very high level of air circulation to be achieved by the shoe during use. Aside from the mesh make of the upper of the shoe, there are also very little overlays in the design meaning that there is relatively little blocking the way of the air in the shoe’s design. The design of the upper in this shoe is very similar to previous models of the shoe in this regard, simply meaning that they all achieve a similar level of air flow. The breathability of this shoe ensures that runners have very little trouble in the way of sweat buildup in the shoe’s design.

Comfort

The materials used in the Pulse 8’s design is placed in such a way as to allow the shoe to provide a certain level of comfort to the foot of the wearer. The mesh in the upper of the shoe is there to provide the wearer with a decent level of cushioning; one that is completely necessary for high-speed activities. Both the tongue and the forefoot of the shoe have extra padding there to prevent the wearer’s foot from experiencing high amounts of movement and in turn discomfort during use. There is a certain amount of gel padding placed in both the forefoot and the heel that allows the shoe to provide a shock absorbing experience; this reduces the fatigue that the wearer feels during use and results in an overall comfortable experience.

Style

The Pulse 8 isn’t the most attractive shoe, but it gets the job done. While the design of the shoe isn’t one that simply screams “wear me anywhere”, it does have the aesthetic qualities necessary for the use that it was designed for. The shoe is relatively slim cut and comes in a decent amount of colors which allows the shoe to be used in various areas. The materials used throughout the shoe’s design are ones that accentuate the shoe’s specific use and allow for a certain level of flair to be added to the shoe. There are also vibrant colors in certain parts of the shoe that almost make it utterly clear that the shoe was designed for various things.

Durability

Although the shoe’s design may be a little more lightweight than the average, the materials used allow for a decent level of longevity to be achieved by the wearer of the shoe. The sole unit of the shoe features a hardened rubber material(AHAR) that allows the shoe to be able to endure a high-level use without worrying the wearer about the constant breakdown of the outsole. The SPEVA midsole of the shoe also allows for a decent level of longevity to be achieved by the shoe, primarily for the same reason mentioned for the outsole. Along with the sole unit of the shoe, the upper provides a decent level of durability for the shoe as well; it does this despite the mesh material used in its design.

Protection

The midsole of the shoe allows for a decent level of protection to be given to the wearer of the shoe. The midsole of the shoe is designed primarily from SPEVA foam and is responsive enough to provide a high level of cushioning for the wearer’s foot; this cushioning protects the wearer’s foot from the effects that extended use of the shoe may have on it. The upper of the shoe doesn’t do very much to protect the wearer’s foot from the effects of any outside elements though; this wouldn’t hold weight in the decision-making process simply because of the intended use of the shoe.

Responsiveness

The sole unit of the Pulse 8 is one that allows the wearer to receive a decent level of responsiveness during their wear of the hoe. The midsole of the shoe is designed primarily from an SPEVA material and allows the wearer of the shoe to feel the shock-absorbing effects of the materials in full. The shock absorption of the sole unit of the shoe allows the shoe to provide the wearer with an extra bounce during wear simply because of the energy return experienced; the heel of the shoe also has added cushioning that works to this effect. As an added note, the fit of the shoe is rather snug which allows for quick movements to be made during wear.

Support

The sole unit on the Pulse 8 is one that provides the wearer with neutral cushioning. The neutral cushioning of the sole unit results in an added layer of protection for the wearer’s foot. The result of the added cushioning is that it adds some stability to the overall shoe. A lot of the support comes from the added heel cushioning in the shoe and the actual material that the sole unit of the shoe is designed from. The firm fit of the upper also adds to the support by limiting the level of movement that the wearer experiences while the shoe is on foot.

Terrain

The shoe is designed for use primarily on roads and other developed terrains. The sole unit of the shoe is designed from a combination of AHAR carbon rubber; a material that is extremely resistant to wear and tear. It can handle a decent level of abuse mainly because of the structure of the material and the fair amount that was placed on the outsole of the shoe. One thing to take note of is that, due to the rubber’s makeup, it doesn’t handle very well in wet or icy conditions.

Price

The Pulse 8’s price is relatively non-existent when considered alongside the materials and the longevity that it is designed from. The rubber of the outsole and the engineered mesh on the upper of the shoe allows the wearer to gain a high level of value from their use of the shoe. The versatility of the shoe also aids in this effect primarily because of the shoe’s ability to provide for both training use and use in races. Overall, the make of the shoe is one that signals that the shoe was designed to keep up with the wearer’s needs and doesn’t break down very easily.

Traction

The sole unit of the Pulse 8 is one that is designed primarily from AHAR carbon rubber. The rubber that is on the outsole of the shoe is designed in such a way as to promote the overall versatility and grip necessary of a shoe to perform in a variety of weather conditions; this implies that the shoe handles very well and delivers a high level of traction to the foot of the wearer. As mentioned earlier, the sole unit of the shoe doesn’t function very well in conditions in wet or otherwise slippery conditions for some reason.

Flexibility

The mesh make of the upper and the SPEVA make of the midsole allow the Pulse 8 to provide the wearer with a decent level of grip to the wearer of the shoe. The midsole of the shoe and the SPEVA make bends very easily, conforming to the shape of the wearer’s foot; this is primarily due to the responsive nature of the foam. The mesh in the upper also bends very easily and conforms to the shape of the wearer’s foot during use. This results in a higher level of flex to be achieved by the shoe resulting in a natural feel during use.

Stability

The upper of the shoe has a decent amount of cushioning placed throughout. The cushioning throughout the design of the upper ensures that the shoe has a snug fit and allows the wearer of the shoe to have a decent level of security in their movements during their time in the shoe. The midsole also conforms to the shape of the wearer’s foot and results in pretty much the same effect being given to the wearer’s foot as the upper, security in their movements.

Drop

Okay, for all the other features of the Pulse 8 to be so minimal, the drop on the shoe kind of stands out. The Pulse 8 has a heel-to-toe ratio of about 10mm; this somewhat high drop partially takes away from the feel of the feel of the shoe and takes away from the natural feel that is provided by the shoe. The high drop does allow the shoe to have a higher level of support for the wearer of the shoe though, which explains the level of cushioning that is present in the heel.

Key features

• AHAR rubber outsole
• Gel Cushioning
• Trusstic system
• SPEVA midsole

Verdict

The Pulse 8 is great for those who need protection in a shoe while also keeping a lightweight feel in the design. The shoe also provides the wearer with a decent level of longevity which translates into a high level of value given to the wearer of the shoe. Besides these things, the design of the shoe is perfect, for what it was made for. The shoe isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing shoe, but that depends on the user of the shoe.
