Outsole
The sole unit of the Skyelux is designed from a highly abrasive rubber material. The use of this material works to improve the shoe’s shock absorption capabilities and also allows the shoe to gain relatively high levels of traction while in use. The material that makes up the outsole of the shoe only covers portions of the sole unit which somewhat adds to the shoe’s ability to flex for the wearer while in use; this is a huge plus for wearers of the shoe simply because of the fact that the material in the outsole of most shoes is simply to firm to allow for flexing of the shoe.
Midsole
The midsole of the shoe is designed from a dual-density layering of foam material. The most prominent material in the sole unit of the shoe is the Lunarlon foam in the midsole; Lunarlon is known for providing the wearer of the shoe with a cushioning effect that is unmatched by most other materials. The most peculiar thing about the cushioning provided by the material in the midsole of the shoe is it provides it to the wearer all while staying relatively firm; this is key because most other shoes trade out cushioning for stability and vice versa.
Upper
The Skyelux features a layered upper in it’s design. The first layer of the shoe is one that is fashioned from a mesh material; this material allows the shoe to bend to the will of the wearer’s foot rather easily and is the main reason why the shoe provides the level of air circulation that it does. The second layering of the upper on the shoe provides the wearer with a decent level of stability; it’s a shell that fits directly underneath the mesh on the forefoot of the shoe. The shoe features flywire lacing as well, that works to give the wearer a snug overall fit while the shoe is in use.
Weight
The materials used in the design of the Skyelux are of the lighter variety. Before anything else is mentioned, it must be said that the Skyelux weighs an astonishing 9.4 oz. The weight of the shoe in total isn’t the lightest but, it gets the job done. The portion of the shoe that adds the most weight to its design is the sole unit and the thick cut of the Lunarlon foam that it is designed from; Lunarlon by itself isn’t heavy but, due to the fact that the majority of the shoe is made from this material, it does play a significant part in the weight that is added to the shoe. The upper of the shoe would also weigh much less, but, considering the dual-layering of it’s design, weighs more than intended.
Breathability
The design of the Skyelux is one that allows the wearer to experience extreme amounts of air flow while the shoe is in use. The upper of the shoe is porous and is designed to give the wearer enough ventilation so that the wearer doesn’t immediately feel the effects of the activity that the shoe is used for. The shoe is able to provide the high level of airflow despite the dual layering because of the fact the second layer is porous and is complimented by a thin mesh initial layer.
Comfort
The Skyelux is definitely comfortable. The upper of the shoe is highly cushioned in various parts throughout it’s design; the heel cup of the shoe is cushioned enough to prevent the wearer from feeling discomfort and the toe box is the same. The shoe also provides the wearer with a snug fit, something that adds to the comfort levels that runners experience while the shoe is on foot. The sole unit is here the majority of the shoe’s comfort comes from though; the Lunarlon material in the midsole of the shoe allows for a decent level of cushioning and feels rather plush when it is on foot.
Style
The design of the Skyelux is one that greatly resembles a lifestyle shoe. The upper of the shoe resembles the design of shoe’s in Adidas’ lifestyle model shoes. The cut of the shoe itself is one that allows it to be worn in areas or activities that are outside of the usual running activities; the shoe is a running shoe by nature and is designed for use during the high-speed activities. The shoe comes in a variety of colorways as well, something that adds to the appeal that it has to various consumers.
Durability
The materials used throughout the design of the are of the more durable sort. The mesh on the upper of the shoe and the cushioning used throughout doesn’t compress as much as usual, which prevents the shoe from losing its plush feel after a few wears in the shoe. The sole unit of the shoe works to give the wearer a decent level of comfort, much like the upper and doesn’t lose the cushioning effect that it has for several hundred miles. Another thing to keep in mind is the fact that sole unit of the shoe also works to prevent the wearer from feeling the rollover effects that are customary with shoes nowadays.
Responsiveness
The midsole of the shoe and the Lunarlon material that it is designed from provides the wearer with a decent level of responsiveness while the shoe is in use. Lunar Lon has a plush effect while the shoe is in use and conforms to the curves of the wearer’s foot rather easily; this, when coupled with the fact that the cut of the material itself is rather thick, allows the shoe to provide the wearer with a decent amount of bounce while the shoe is in use.
Protection
Both the upper of the Skyelux and the sole unit work to give the wearer a decent level of cushioning while the shoe is in use;> the upper of the shoe has dual-layering that allows the shoe to provide the wearer with a bit of stopping power while the shoe is on foot. The sole unit of the shoe provides the wearer a good level of support and is thick enough to provide the wearer with a sense of stopping power while the shoe is in use.
Support
The midsole’s ability to conform to the shape and curves of the wearer’s foot allows the wearer to have a decent level of support while the shoe is in use the midsole is designed from a thick cut of Lunarlon foam that, when considered alongside the fact that drop on the shoe is considerable, allows the shoe to provide support for the wearer’s foot and the arches of the heel of the wearer’s foot. The upper of the shoe also allows the wearer to have a decent level of support for the sides of their feet.
Terrain
The shoe works best when used on developed terrains. The Skyelux has a sole unit that is fitted with a read patterning throughout; the flat cut of the rubber on the outsole of the shoe takes away from the shoe’s ability to handle rural terrains such as trails and the like. The Lunarlon material on the sole unit also handles best on developed terrains; the cushioning of the midsole wouldn’t handle rural terrains very well and would lose the bounce that it has.
Price
The best thing about this model is that it can be found very cheaply in a variety of places. The price and materials used in the shoe show a very large inconsistency; the shoe’s choice of materials allows it to provide the wearer with a rather long period of use, which is something that a plethora of other shoes in its category simply don’t have. The inconsistency found in the spread between the price of the shoes and the materials used makes the Skyelux a solid investment for a runner; especially for one who is seeking a shoe that is a bit lighter than the normal shoe.
Traction
The tread patterning on the outsole of the Skyelux allows it to provide the wearer with a decent level of grip while the shoe is in use. The shoe features a rounded tread patterning designed from an abrasive rubber material; the use of this material greatly improves the shoe’s grip due to the fact that the material flexes. The sole unit also overs only sections of the sole unit of the shoe; this is doubly necessary because of the flex that it provides and the certainty that it gives the wearer in their movements. Coupled with the bounce and the higher heel-stack that is present in the shoe’s design, the grip provided by the shoe allows the wearer to have an insane level of functionality while the shoe is in use.
Flexibility
The upper of the shoe is one that allows the wearer a good level of flex while the shoe is in use; the mesh upper moves rather easily and despite the dual layering of its design. The upper of the shoe itself, as was mentioned, moves rather easily; this allows the shoe to conform to the shape and size of the wearer’s foot and prevents the wearer from having a loose-fitting shoe while on foot. The sole unit of the shoe also allows the wearer to have a decent level of flex while the shoe is on foot due to the plush effect of the Lunarlon material and the minimal outsole on the shoe; the outsole only covers a portion of the wearer’s foot and allows the wearer to achieve a decent level of grip due to these features.
Stability
The sole unit of the shoe is one that allows the wearer to retain a decent level of stability and, in turn, security in their movements. The upper of the shoe is dual-layered and even though it retains a decent level of flexibility, is somewhat firm this translates into a structured feel and security for the wearer’s movements. The sole unit of the shoe works in much the same way as the upper to make the feel of the shoe a bit more structured than the usual; the sole unit is firm yet plush for the foot and provides the wearer with a sense a bit of security in their footing while the shoe is in use.
Drop
The drop on the Skyelux is a little bit above average due to the added cushioning that is present in the heel of the shoe. The heel-to-toe ratio on the Skyelux is about 12mm; this doesn’t do much to take away from the natural feel of the shoe and the transitions that are provided by the shoe while in use.

Verdict
Overall, Nike did a great job with their design of the Skyelux. The shoe has an outsole that provides the wearer with a decent amount of support and doesn’t take away from the feel of the overall shoe; the pod design that the shoe is equipped with is one that goes above and beyond and increases the shoe’s ability to provide the wearer with a shock-absorbent feel. The Lunarlon of the outsole itself allows the wearer to have a decent level of cushioning and improves the overall feel of the shoe itself. The level of stability provided by this Nike shoe is incredible as well. They have somehow found a way to improve the shoe’s ability to provide the wearer with a decent level of flex while also retaining a certain level of stability throughout the shoe’s design.
